Coopfam

Cooperativa dos Agricultores Familiares de Poço Fundo - Coopfam - (Farmers Cooperative of Family) is a reference in organic agriculture, agro-ecological and solidarity. Currently there are over 300 small family farmers who already benefits gained through the cooperative in the municipalities: Poço fundo, Machado, Andradas, Campestre, Ouro Fino, Cambuí, Paraguaçu, Santa Rita do Sapucaí, São João da Mata, Silvanópolis, Natércia, Nepomuceno and Inconfidentes, all located in the south of Minas Gerais.

The union of producers began in the 80s, through the Pastoral da Terra (Land Pastoral). In 1991, the group organized founded the Association of Small Farmers of the Poço Fundo and in 2003, with more professionalism and organization, the association became a cooperative - Coopfam.

The cooperative families have an average of 5.3 hectares, totaling 1600 ha assisted. Of this area, about 520 ha are intended for growing organic coffee, representing one of the most important producing areas of this segment in Brazil, with direct involvement of 106 families.

In 2002, the organization became certified organic production in obtaining certificates BCS ÖKO - GARANTIE (Germany). It holds since 1998 the Fair Trade Certified FLO Fairtrade certified and is currently also the TECPAR (2011).

The first export was made to the U.S. in 2002 and since then the marketing of producers is made directly with buyers, adding value, conquer new markets and greater profitability for farmers.
