What is glyceryl tributyrate?
Tributyl butyrate (or glyceryl butyrate, or tributylglyceride) is a triglyceride of a short-chain fatty acid called butyric acid (sometimes called butyric acid or butyric acid). It contains three butyric acid molecules that are esterified into glycerol.
Tributyl butyrate is a colorless, transparent, oily liquid with a slight fat aroma. The boiling point is 307.5°C and the relative density is 1.0320.
Tributyrin occurs naturally in foods such as milk and honey.

Characteristics of glyceryl tributyrate
Tributyric acid is hardly broken down in the stomach, but is broken down into butyric acid and glycerol under the action of pancreatic lipase or other esterases, thus providing an adequate source of energy for the intestines (butyric acid).
The half-life is up to 40min, which overcomes the defect of rapid metabolism of butyric acid in the blood, improves the ability of blood reactive oxygen species to carry and the function of mitochondria on ATP synthesis, and reduces the mortality rate of fatal infections.
The asymmetry of the molecular structure at both ends gives it emulsification properties and improves the utilization of fat.
Tributyric acid has molecular polarity, can effectively penetrate the cell membranes of some viruses and bacteria, play a bacteriostatic role, and can kill E. coli, Salmonella, Streptococcus and so on.
